The field is the last to be sold from the old Camptoun Farm. It lies at 300ft on the fringe of the flat, fertile, coastal plains on the north side of the formerly volcanic Garleton Hills. For the past few years the field has been contract farmed growing a range of cereals. All the land
in the field is Grade 3(1), as classified by the
James Hutton Institute with a deep, medium-clay-loam soil. Yield capability is in excess of 9 tonnes/ha for Winter Wheat and 7 tonnes/ha for Winter Barley. A crop of Winter Wheat is currently in the ground. Access is straight forward off the main road from Haddington to Drem.
